Overview

Komodo Hub is a full-stack web platform designed to bridge schools, communities, and conservation organizations in Indonesia, promoting ecological education and wildlife protection.

Developed by Team TerraTech Alliance for the CUH601CMD Software Engineering module, this project demonstrates a complete Agile Scrum development cycle—from requirements analysis to deployment—delivered in two sprints across eight weeks.

Core Features

User Registration & Login System Role-based authentication with JWT security (Student, Teacher, School Admin, Community Member, System Admin).
Course Management Module
- Teachers can create and manage courses, upload videos, and assign tasks.
- Students can access learning materials, submit assignments, and track progress.
Community Module Supports article publishing, commenting, liking, and saving to foster conservation engagement.
Knowledge Base Open access to information about Indonesian endangered species and conservation programs.
About & Contact Pages Present the project background, development team, and contact methods for partnerships.

Installation Guide

1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.coventry.ac.uk/leiy20/Software_Engineering_Group7_Case1.git
cd Software_Engineering_Group7_Case1

2. Install Dependencies

npm install

3. Configure Environment Variables

Create a .env file in the root directory and include:

MONGO_URI=your_mongodb_connection
JWT_SECRET=your_secret_key
PORT=5000

4. Run Backend

node auth-service/server.js

5. Run Frontend

npm run dev

After running, visit:

http://localhost:3000

Deployment

The project can be deployed locally or on cloud platforms such as Vercel, Netlify, or via Docker.

To run using Docker:

docker-compose up --build

Future Improvements

Add live classroom and peer review features for courses
Introduce volunteer recruitment and contributor ranking in the community module
Migrate backend to microservices architecture for scalability
Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Integrate real-time data APIs for Indonesian conservation updates
