Week 3: Policy and Infrastructure

Last week we looked at the legal aspects of security. And discussed the obligations an organisation when collecting and processing data.

This week we will look at wider policy decisions, and infrastructure. How can we support security in an organisation, what tools and services can we use to support this.

• Threats to systems. We will examine some common threats to systems, and look at real world examples of these threats.
• The Principles behind secure design
• The Secure development life cycle
• Technical Factors. What Technology can we use to protect our systems

Lab Task

In this weeks lab we are going to get practical \0/.

We will look at:

• How do we detect and find network services
• Configuring a simple firewall, and its impact
• The Impact of antivirus on malware.
