Coursework Overview
You will be pleased to know that the module is 100% coursework, so that means no "exams".
The module mark is made up of 3 pieces of coursework, the usual rules apply, you will need to get an overall mark of 40% to pass the module.
1: The Phase test. (20% of Module Mark)
Will take place in week 4. (Week Commencing 8/2/2021, date TBC)
This will be a multiple choice test on Moodle The test will cover the elements we have covered so far in the module with topics like:
- Basic Linux Command line
- Shells and SSH
- Site Reconnaissance
2: The Report (40% of Module Mark)
Will be due in week 8 (Week Commencing ⅓/2021, date TBC)
For this part of the coursework you will need to write a report on TWO of the topics we have covered. For example (XSS and SQLi)
For each of the topics you pick you will need to:
- Explain why the topic is interesting for cyber security
- Discuss how significant the problem is for security
- Explain any technical details of how the topic works
- Provide suggestions for mitigation of the threat.
3: The Sills Test (40% of the module mark)
Will take place between weeks 10 and 12 (26/3 - 9/4 2021)
In this part of the coursework you will have to perform a practical pen-test of a target machine(s).
You will be given a VM and will be expected to demonstrate skills in topics such as.
- Reconnaissance
- Web Exploitation
- Privilege Escalation
- Buffer Overflows.
